Cyclone Emergency Relief Fund for the Cyclone Nargis Victims in Burma

Friends of Burma & Burmese community

As you all heard from the daily news, hundreds of thousands of people have died and about a million have been affected by Cyclone Nargis (category-4) that ravaged cities across the Irrawaddy, Rangoon, Pegu, Mon and Karen regions on May 3, 2008. According to the latest reports from the MRTV 4 (the military’s mouth-piece news agency) and other news agencies, as of today, over 22, 000 people perished and more than 40,000 still missing and as many as 1 million possibly left homeless.

Electricity remained cut and the victims are in desperate needs for food, water, medicines and shelters. Hence, in response, and to enable the Burmese community and friends of Burma to act together, the Mingalarama Sayadaws (monks), and the volunteers have coordinated the Cyclone Emergency Relief Fund to assist in the recovery, relief and rehabilitation of the victims of this tragedy and their families. All proceeds of the Emergency Relief Fund will go directly to assist individuals, families and other relief organizations.

We call on all Burmese and friends of Burma to stand in solidarity and to act with compassion and generosity. Checks should be made payable to “BABA” with a memo “the Cyclone Emergency Relief Fund” and sent to:
